Corns and calluses result from the repeated friction of skin rubbing against shoe irregularities or bony areas. Most often, corns form on the toes while calluses are most commonly found on the foot’s soles. Calluses and corns are the result of dead, compacted skin cells that form protective layers.
The pressure and friction from calluses and corns can result in pain or a burning sensation. This pain and discomfort can be relieved by placing a soft padding or moleskin on the area that is affected. You should never attempt to cut or treat corns or calluses without being under the care of a physician. If you are experiencing problems with calluses or corns, call us to schedule an appointment.
